A beast has time for charm (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

amulet

'for charm' is the definition.
(amulet is a kind of charm)

'a beast has time' is the wordplay.
'beast' becomes 'mule' (I have seen 'Stubborn beast' mean 'mule' so perhaps 'beast' could also mean 'mule').
'has' says to put letters next to each other.
'time' becomes 't' (abbreviation).
'a'+'mule'+'t'='AMULET'

(Other definitions for amulet that I've seen before include "Thing worn as charm against evil" , "Magical charm" , "Ornament thought to give protection" , "Small charm" , "Charm worn to ward off evil" .)

I've seen this clue in The Mirror.
