Crossword Genius

A bit of a beast in Saskatchewan (5,3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

moose jaw

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a bit' is the definition.
I know nothing about this answer so I can't judge whether this works.

'a beast in saskatchewan' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'beast' could be 'moose' and 'moose' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'jaw' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for moose jaw that I've seen is " not far from Regina".)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
