Crossword Genius

Brief outfit for a special figure (5,6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

prime number

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a special figure' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both quantities as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps there's a link between them I don't understand?

'brief outfit' is the wordplay.
'brief' becomes 'prime' (I've seen this before).
'outfit' becomes 'number' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'prime'+'number'='PRIME NUMBER'

'for' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for prime number that I've seen before include "One providing amusement" , "Integer divisible only by itself and by 1" , "One such as 3, 5, 7, 11, etc" , "2011, say" , "2 or 3 -- but not 4" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
