Broken bread, say (5)
I believe the answer is:
eaten
'broken bread say' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both related to change as well as being past participle verbs.
Perhaps they are linked in a way I don't understand?
'broken' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'broken' could be 'ate' (eating is a kind of breaking) and 'ate' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'en' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for eaten that I've seen before include "used for food" , "Swallowed" , "Scoffed" , "dinners should be" , "This bread is soon forgotten, it's said" .)
