Crossword Genius

Dairy product formed the wrong way (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

edam

'dairy product' is the definition.
(Edam is an example)

'formed the wrong way' is the wordplay.
'formed' becomes 'made' ('make' can be a synonym of 'form').
'the wrong way' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'made' in reverse letter order is 'EDAM'.

(Other definitions for edam that I've seen before include "Spherical cheese" , "Dutch specialty" , "Netherlands cheese" , "Red-coated cheese" , "Sphere of Dutch cheese" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
