Dog and what it may do without a lead possibly? (6)
I believe the answer is:
poodle
'dog' is the definition.
(breed of dog)
'do without a lead possibly?' is the wordplay.
'do' becomes 'poo' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'without' indicates named letters should be taken away.
'possibly?' indicates anagramming the letters (I've seen 'possibly' mean this).
'lead' with 'a' taken away is 'led'.
'led' anagrammed gives 'dle'.
'poo'+'dle'='POODLE'
'and what it may' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for poodle that I've seen before include "5 [MANS BEST FRIEND]" , "Curly-haired breed of dog" , "toady?" , "Woofing" , "Pet dog; obsequious chap" .)
