I believe the answer is:

looking

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'watching' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'family enters throne room with head of guards' is the wordplay.
'family' becomes 'kin' (synonyms).
'enters' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'throne room' becomes 'lo' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'with head' says to take the initial letters (I've seen 'with head of' mean this).
The initial letters of 'of guards' is 'og'.
'lo'+'og'='loog'
'kin' inserted inside 'loog' is 'LOOKING'.

(Other definitions for looking that I've seen before include "Observing" , "Directing the eyes towards" , "Appearing (like)" , "Viewing" , "Seeming to be; gazing" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
