Crossword Genius

From the collection of Nick Clegg, say? (2,3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

ex lib

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'the collection of nick clegg say?' is the definition.
I know nothing about this answer so I can't judge whether this works.

'from' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'from' could be 'ex' and 'ex' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'lib' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for ex lib that I've seen before include "From the books of (abbrev.)" , "From the library of" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
