Improper presents of food and some cigs (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bungs

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'improper presents' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both to do with ownership as well as being verbs in their -s form.
Maybe you can see a link between them that I don't see?

'food and some cigs' is the wordplay.
'food' becomes 'bun' (bun is a kind of food).
'and' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'some cigs' becomes 'gs' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'bun'+'gs'='BUNGS'

'of' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for bungs that I've seen before include "bribes?" , "Puts a stop to" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
