Crossword Genius

Intended one for Resistance in country round Paris (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

fiance

'intended' is the definition.
(who someone intends to marry)

'one for resistance in country round paris' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'one' could be 'an' (an apple is one apple) and 'an' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

(Other definitions for fiance that I've seen before include "The man she's engaged to" , "He's going to marry" , "One waiting to go to match" , "Male intended" , "who may be planning marriage" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent, The Times and The Sun.
