I believe the answer is:

lasagne

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'the pasta' is the definition.
(lasagne is a kind of pasta)

'left a dip plus two directions' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'left' could be 'l' (common abbreviation) and 'l' is found in the answer.
'a' is found in the answer.
'directions' could be 'ne' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'ne' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'sag' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'for' is the link.

(Other definitions for lasagne that I've seen before include "Layered pasta dish" , "Pasta served in strips" , "Fool ran as angel (anag) - pasta dish" , "Italian food" , "Tasty Italian dish with layers of mince in pasta" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
