Make go to the party (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

sendoff

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'make' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how they can define each other.

'go to the party' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'go' could be 'do' (doing is a kind of going) and 'do' is found in the answer.
'party' could be 'ff' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'ff' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'sen' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for sendoff that I've seen before include "post" , "Dismiss" .)
