Mark-up not in the main body of writing? (6,6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

profit margin

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'body of writing?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.

'mark-up not in the main' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'mark' could be 'm' and 'm' is located in the answer.
'not' could be 'o' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'o' is located in the answer.
'in' is found in the answer.
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for profit margin that I've seen before include "Financial gain" , "what keeps firm afloat" , "Revenue minus costs" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Independent.
