Crossword Genius

Money won from bet after wicket falls in spell at the crease (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

innings

'spell at the crease' is the definition.
(cricket term)

'money won from bet after wicket falls in' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'from' could be 'in' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'in' is found within the answer.
'in' is within the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

(Other definitions for innings that I've seen before include "time in office" , "Time at the wicket" , "Time spent at the crease" , "Batsman's spell at wicket" , "Time spent batting" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
