Crossword Genius

News of unconscious forces present in objects after hydrogen removed (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tidings

'news' is the definition.
(I know that news can be written as tidings)

'unconscious forces present in objects after hydrogen removed' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'present' could be 'in' (as in a student being 'in' class) and 'in' is found in the answer.
'unconscious forces' could be 'id' (id is part of the subconscious) and 'id' is located in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'of' is the link.

(Other definitions for tidings that I've seen before include "Information about recent events" , "News (arch.)" , "News, information" , "News, reports" , "News (obs.)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
