Crossword Genius

Parliament, one about to give a long account (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

iliad

'a long account' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'parliament one about' is the wordplay.
'parliament' becomes 'dail' (I've seen this before).
'one' becomes 'I' (Roman numeral).
'about' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'dail'+'i'='daili'
'daili' written backwards gives 'ILIAD'.

'to give' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for iliad that I've seen before include "Greek epic poem about the Trojan War" , "Homerian work" , "A work by 7" , "Homer's ancient Greek epic" , "The -----, Homeric epic" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
