Crossword Genius

Places unsuited for vacation erected in row (4-2)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

dust-up

'row' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'places unsuited for vacation erected' is the wordplay.
'places' becomes 'puts' ('put' can be a synonym of 'place').
'for vacation' suggests removing the centre (middle letters vacate the word).
'erected' says the letters should be written in reverse (in a down clue, letters go up).
'unsuited' with its centre taken out is 'ud'.
'puts'+'ud'='putsud'
'putsud' backwards is 'DUST-UP'.

'in' is the link.

(Other definitions for dust-up that I've seen before include "An informal fight - powder in the air?" , "Altercation" , "An informal fight - use vacuum cleaner" , "Fracas" , "Brawl (colloq.)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
