Crossword Genius

Reiterating one’s ability to perform dance (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cancan

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'dance' is the definition.
(cancan is a kind of dance)

'reiterating one's ability to perform' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'one' could be 'an' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'an' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cancan that I've seen before include "High-kicking French dance, once considered naughty" , "Dance of the French music halls" , "High-kicking dance of repetitive kind" , "Daring French dance, doubly permissive" , "Paris music hall dance" .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
