I believe the answer is:

damsel

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'she's' is the definition.
(a damsel is a young woman)

'insane to turn around and sell short' is the wordplay.
'insane' becomes 'mad' (synonyms).
'to turn around' is a reversal indicator (I've seen 'turning around' mean this).
'and' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'short' means to remove the last letter.
'mad' back-to-front is 'dam'.
'sell' with its final letter removed is 'sel'.
'dam'+'sel'='DAMSEL'

'often said to be in distress but it would be' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for damsel that I've seen before include "Maiden, often in distress" , "Young lady of old, perhaps in distress" , "Maid" , "Young woman (often in distress)" , "distressed girl?" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
