Crossword Genius

Slice boundary after wide (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

wedge

'slice' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'boundary after wide' is the wordplay.
'boundary' becomes 'edge' ('edge' can be a synonym of 'boundary'**).
'after' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'wide' becomes 'w' (abbreviation e.g. in cricket).
'edge' after 'w' is 'WEDGE'.

(Other definitions for wedge that I've seen before include "piece of cake" , "Splitting device" , "Tapered insert" , "Force (into narrow space); type of golf club" , "Chock" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
