Strength in golf decreasing? (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

ironing

'decreasing?' is the definition.
(de-creasing: removing creases)

'strength in golf' is the wordplay.
'strength' becomes 'iron' (I've seen this before).
'golf' becomes 'g' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.).
'iron'+'in'+'g'='IRONING'

(Other definitions for ironing that I've seen before include "Items to decrease" , "having pressing business" , "Household task" , "Smoothing - removing wrinkles" , "Making clothes smooth" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
