I believe the answer is:

'monopolised' becomes 'a' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'by' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'old' becomes 'o' (common abbreviation eg in OE for Old English).
'angle' becomes 'fish' (synonyms).
'a' put after 'o' is 'oa'.
'oa'+'fish'='OAFISH'
