Crossword Genius

Ross

I believe the answer is:

identikit

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'suspect image' is the definition.
'Identikit' can be an answer for 'image' (Identikit is an example). I am not sure about the 'suspect' bit.

'matilda with one wearing knitted pattern' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'matilda' could be 'i' (where the crossword setter is 'Matilda') and 'i' is present in the answer.
'one' could be 'i' (Roman numeral) and 'i' is present in the answer.
an anagram of 'knitted' is 'dentkit' which is within the left over letters.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for identikit that I've seen before include "image maker" , "Formulaic" , "Reconstructed image of a criminal" , "Tied kit in (anag) - facial likeness" , "facial recognition system" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
