I know nothing about this answer so I can't tell whether this works.

'done in empty template' is the wordplay.
'done in' becomes 'slain' (I've seen this in another clue).
'empty' means to remove the middle letters.
'template' with its middle removed is 'te'.
'slain'+'te'='SLAINTE'
