Crossword Genius

Weight of stamp raised pressing single record (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

kilogram

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'pressing single record' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both quantities as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps you can see an association between them that I can't see?

'weight of stamp raised' is the wordplay.
'weight' becomes 'kilo' (I have seen 'Metric weight' mean 'kilo' so perhaps 'weight' could also mean 'kilo').
'of stamp' becomes 'marg' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'raised' shows that the letters should be reversed in order.
'marg' reversed gives 'gram'.
'kilo'+'gram'='KILOGRAM'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for kilogram that I've seen before include "Approximately 2.2 lbs" , "Approximately 2.2lbs" , "Approximately, 2.2 lb" , "Unit of mass" , "Metric unit of weight" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
