I believe the answer is:

carrycot

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'what provides incentive' is the definition.
I can't judge whether this defines the answer.

'bear young children initially?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'bear' could be 'carry' ('carry' can be a synonym of 'bear') and 'carry' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'cot' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

'to' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for carrycot that I've seen before include "Infant's transport" , "Baby transporter" , "Portable baby bed" , "Portable container for baby" , "Parents' baggage" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
