Crossword Genius

Where to take off and dry sports kit (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

airstrip

'where to take off' is the definition.
(where an aircraft takes off)

'dry sports kit' is the wordplay.
'dry' becomes 'air' (airing is a kind of drying).
'sports kit' becomes 'strip' (eg strip can mean a football kit).
'air'+'strip'='AIRSTRIP'

'and' is the link.

(Other definitions for airstrip that I've seen before include "Simple runway" , "Small runway" , "possible starting place" , "Small flying field" , "(Unprepared) runway" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
