A tip to rewire support for bust (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

arrest

'for bust' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'a tip to rewire support' is the wordplay.
'a tip' says the letters should be written backwards (I've seen 'tipped' mean this).
'to rewire' becomes 'ra' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'support' becomes 'rest' (e.g. a shoulder rest is a support for shoulder).
'ra' reversed gives 'ar'.
'ar'+'rest'='ARREST'

(Other definitions for arrest that I've seen before include "Nab" , "Stop or slow down the progress of" , "Cause to stop" , "Seize and take into custody" , "Stop, check (progress)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
