Crossword Genius

After the alarm’s gone off, has a drink (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

marsala

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'drink' is the definition.
(Marsala is an example)

'after the alarm's gone off has a' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'after' could be 'ala' ('a la' - 'in the style of ' or 'after' in French) and 'ala' is found within the answer.
'a' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'mrs' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

(Other definitions for marsala that I've seen before include "Sicilian dessert wine" , "Sweet Sicilian wine" , "Sweet dessert wine" , "Fortified wine from Sicily" , "Wine - as alarm (anag)" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
