I believe the answer is:

eternity

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'eight fallen over it' is the definition.
I can't tell whether this definition defines the answer.

'forever to understand its meaning' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'forever' could be 'etern' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'etern' is located in the answer.
'its' could be 'it' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'it' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'y' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'takes' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for eternity that I've seen before include "destination of film?" , "Wolfgang Amadeus -" , "Type of ring" , "Blake innocently found it in an hour" , "World without end" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
