Gently hold framework (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

cradle

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This clue might be a double definition.

'gently hold' is the first definition.
'cradle' can be an answer for 'hold' (cradling is a kind of holding). I'm not certain of the 'gently' bit.

'framework' is the second definition.
The answer and definition can be both man-made objects as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for cradle that I've seen before include "early bed" , "Bassinet" , "Hold lovingly" , "Hold gently and protectively" , "Hold tenderly" .)

I've seen this clue in The Mirror.
