Getting too hot doing the housework (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

charring

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'getting' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both related to change as well as being present participle verbs.
Perhaps you can see a link between them that I don't see?

'too hot doing the housework' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'hot' could be 'in' (both can mean fashionable) and 'in' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for charring that I've seen before include "Rich gran (anag)" , "Burning" , "doing menial work" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
