I believe the answer is:

tormented

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'tortured' is the definition.
(I know that tortured can be written as tormented)

'journalist wrong about soldiers first' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'journalist' could be 'ed' (short for editor) and 'ed' is found in the answer.
'soldiers' could be 'men' (men can mean a group of soldiers) and 'men' is found in the answer.
'wrong' could be 'tort' (legal term) and 'tort' is found in the remaining letters.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'being' is the link.

(Other definitions for tormented that I've seen before include "Worried" , "Caused to suffer" , "Made to suffer" , "Suffering severely" , "Distressed" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
