Crossword Genius

Old solver's after something corny or crude (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

earthy

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'crude' is the definition.
(both can mean vulgar)

'old solver's after something corny' is the wordplay.
'old solver' becomes 'thy' (I've seen this in other clues. I am not sure about the 'old' bit.).
'after' says to put letters next to each other.
'something corny' becomes 'ear' (as in an ear of corn).
'thy' put after 'ear' is 'EARTHY'.

'or' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for earthy that I've seen before include "Coarse like the soil" , "Resembling soil" , "Head covering" , "Sensible and practical - crude" , "Hearty (anag)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
