reminds

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'takes one back' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are verbs in their -s form, I can't understand how one could define the other.

'looks after one again' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'again' could be 're' (prefix meaning 'again') and 're' is found in the answer.
'looks after' could be 'minds' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'minds' is found within the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'and' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for reminds that I've seen before include "Evokes a memory" , "Prompts" , "Calls up memory" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
