Crossword Genius

Traveller's car crashed into second car (5,4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

marco polo

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'traveller's' is the definition.
(13th-century explorer)

'car crashed into second car' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'car' is 'arc' which is located in the answer.
'second' could be 'mo' (both are short periods of time) and 'mo' is located in the remaining letters.
The remaining letters 'polo' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
