Crossword Genius

Wear diamonds deposited in a Scottish bank (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

abrade

'wear' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'diamonds deposited in a scottish bank' is the wordplay.
'diamonds' becomes 'd' (abbreviation for the card suit diamonds).
'deposited in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'scottish bank' becomes 'brae' (Scottish term for a bank or hillside).
'a'+'brae'='abrae'
'd' going within 'abrae' is 'ABRADE'.

(Other definitions for abrade that I've seen before include "Day breaks? > Start as before" , "Wear away by rubbing (6)" , "Wear away by erosion" , "Scrape away, erode" , "Wear away by rubbing, scrape" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
