Crossword Genius

A coned form possibly seen in church (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

deacon

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'seen in church' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't understand how one could define the other.

'a coned form' is the wordplay.
'form' indicates anagramming the letters.
'a'+'coned'='aconed'
'aconed' with letters rearranged gives 'DEACON'.

'possibly' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for deacon that I've seen before include "Clergyman of low rank" , "Minister below a priest" , "Priest's assistant" , "Church officer" , "An ordained minister" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
