Crossword Genius

A lot I've to disturb and disrupt (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

violate

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'disrupt' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are verbs in their base form, I don't understand how one could define the other.

'a lot i've to disturb' is the wordplay.
'to disturb' indicates anagramming the letters (I've seen 'disturbed' mean this (the order of letters is disturbed)).
'a'+'lot'+'ive'='alotive'
'alotive' is an anagram of 'VIOLATE'.

'and' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for violate that I've seen before include "Abuse" , "Break in on; disregard" , "Desecrate, despoil" , "Transgress" , "Break (a rule)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
