I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'a rifle?' is the definition.
I know nothing about this answer so I cannot tell whether this works.

'aches from the recoil of' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'aches' could be 'pains' (I've seen this before) and 'pains' is found in the answer.
'from' could be 'in' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'in' is found in the answer.
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is present in the answer.
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'shog' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
