Crossword Genius

Analyse East Persian dialect (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

parsee

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'persian dialect' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how one could define the other.

'analyse east' is the wordplay.
'analyse' becomes 'parse' (to parse is to analyse grammatically).
'east' becomes 'E' (synonyms).
'parse'+'e'='PARSEE'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for parsee that I've seen before include "See rap turned into a Zoroastrian Indian" , "Old immigrant" , "Follower of a pre-Islamic religion - sea rep (anag)" , "Adherent of a Zoroastrian sect - a spree (anag)" , "Religious believer" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
