I believe the answer is:

oddments

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'assortment' is the definition.
(oddments is a kind of assortment)

'funny guys teams without substance' is the wordplay.
'funny' becomes 'odd' (I've seen this before).
'guys teams' becomes 'mets' (I can't explain this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'without' is an insertion indicator ('without' can be similar in meaning to 'outside').
'substance' becomes 'n' (N is an example).
'mets' enclosing 'n' is 'ments'.
'odd'+'ments'='ODDMENTS'

'of' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for oddments that I've seen before include "Bits and bobs" , "Mods tend to don bits and pieces" , "Bits and pieces, isolated garments" , "just a few items" , "Isolated articles, left-overs." .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
