Crossword Genius

Attracting attention of husband in a bad way (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

hailing

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'attracting attention' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are present participle verbs, I don't see how one could define the other.

'husband in a bad way' is the wordplay.
'husband' becomes 'h' (abbreviation).
'in a bad way' becomes 'ailing' (somebody who is ailing is unwell).
'h'+'ailing'='HAILING'

'of' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for hailing that I've seen before include "Greeting" , "Raining ice" , "Waving to (a taxi)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
