Ross

I believe the answer is:

airmen

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'aviator's wing that is neutral somehow?' is the definition.
I can't tell whether this definition defines the answer.

'wing that is neutral somehow?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'wing' could be 'r' (r is abbreviation for right) and 'r' is found within the answer.
'neutral' could be 'n' (abbreviation in electronics) and 'n' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'aime' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for airmen that I've seen before include "serving in HM forces?" , "Marine (anag)" , "Chaps needing to take off" , "Red Arrows" , "Daedalus and Icarus for example" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
