Crossword Genius

Bachelor, evicted from bars, bolts (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

locks

'bolts' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'bachelor evicted from bars' is the wordplay.
'bachelor' becomes 'B' (abbreviation e.g. BA=Bachelor of Arts).
'evicted from' is a deletion indicator.
'bars' becomes 'blocks' ('block' can be a synonym of 'bar').
'blocks' with 'b' removed is 'LOCKS'.

(Other definitions for locks that I've seen before include "Door fasteners" , "Tresses" , "raising devices for sailors" , "Fastens - hair" , "Securely fixes" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
