Band going around on the road? (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tyre

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'band' is the definition.
(tyre is a kind of band)

'going around on the road?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'on' could be 're' (regarding) and 're' is found in the answer.
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'y' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tyre that I've seen before include "Mediterranean city" , "Ancient (and modern) port - rim for wheel" , "A spare one may be fat around the middle" , "Band on wheel" , "Lebanese city" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun.
