Bar billiards entertains some stars from the south

Ross

I believe the answer is:

libra

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'stars from the south' is the definition.
'libra' can be an answer for 'stars' (I've seen this before). I am unsure of the 'from the south' bit.

'bar billiards entertains some' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
an anagram of 'bar' is 'bra' which is within the answer.
The remaining letters 'li' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for libra that I've seen before include "Balance constellation" , "Scales constellation" , "Constellation near Virgo" , "Zodiac sign of the scales" , "Old pound" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Mail.
