I believe the answer is:

panjandrum

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'big noise' is the definition.
Both the answer and definition are singular nouns.
Maybe there's a link between them I don't understand?

'piper before month on strike' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'piper' could be 'pan' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'pan' is located in the answer.
'month' could be 'jan' (abbreviation for January) and 'jan' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'drum' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'from' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for panjandrum that I've seen before include "man of great influence" , "pompous official" , "Big cheese" , "Person in high authority" , "influential man" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
