Crossword Genius

Book about feeding birds, source unfamiliar (8,6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

robinson crusoe

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'book' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'about feeding birds source unfamiliar' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'about' could be 'on' (as in a book 'on' a certain topic) and 'on' is present in the answer.
'birds' could be 'robins' (robin is a kind of bird) and 'robins' is found in the answer.
an anagram of 'source' is 'crusoe' which is within the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for robinson crusoe that I've seen before include "Fictional castaway" , "CA [CHILDRENS ADVENTURE]" , "classic book" , "Castaway on desert island" , "one found on island" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
