Crossword Genius

Bring a fish back towards the sheltered side (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

leeward

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'towards the sheltered side' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'bring a fish back' is the wordplay.
'bring' becomes 'draw' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'a fish' becomes 'eel' (eel is a type of fish).
'back' is a reversal indicator.
'draw'+'eel'='draweel'
'draweel' back-to-front is 'LEEWARD'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for leeward that I've seen before include "The way the wind blows" , "side of sailors" , "Of ship, on side turned away from wind" , "A welder (anag.)" , "Draw eel (anag.)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Independent.
